Guess Who I Met!

Yes that's the one and only Brian Skotko!! I had the pleasure of meeting him yesterday . He was in RI speaking to health care professionals at Woman and Infants hospital. I've never been in that hospital and not been pregnant, it was a little strange. Anyway, I was asked to share my experience when receiving the diagnosis about Miss E having Down syndrome. I'm not a public speaker, but the thought of meeting Brian and being able to listen to his talk lured me in. I'm so glad I went , it was a great experience with a very kind and welcoming group of people. Later after the room cleared Brian , Claudia the DSSRI coordinator(who set this all up) and little ol' me had lunch and just chatted. It was wonderful to be in the company of these two people, who have dedicated their lives to advocating and educating people about Down syndrome . Definitely a day I will always remember.

He was in town for a conference here last year but, we couldn't make it, heard he is great to talk to.

When Addison had her second heart surgery, Brian came and visited her in the hospital. I felt horrible because I was taking her for a stroller walk down the hallways to settle her down and he pretty much had to hunt for us all through the cardio floor. (-: He is such an amazing doctor and person. I hope to take Addison back soon to their Ds clinic.

Patti you kill me! Yes that's me. Brian is young enough to be my son or at least my little brother! I'm delighted to be mistaken for someone anywhere young enough to be his wife! Just don't look to closely, lOL

Thats amazing getting up there and speaking, I think you must have been perfect considering what a wonderful advocate you are for DS. They got the absolute right person in. Keep up this wonderful work you have no idea where it can take you.
