My Families Heart

Reece's Rainbow has become a well known and often spoken word in our house. The names Olga, Brigitta , Kareen, and Nellie are also commonly heard names. Even Andrew will just randomly ask about one of "the girls". Our hearts as a family have all grown for the orphans that most of the world doesn't even know exist.

One of my children in particular has grown a passion to help... that would be Sophia. I didn't really expect it. I don't know why. I know she has a huge heart, and although boasts a tough exterior she is a mush ball on the inside. She has chosen to be Brigitta's prayer warrior, and is know planning a fund raiser for her.

When Peter and I decided to open our hearts to these children and do what ever we could do to help them, I wondered how our kids would react. Would they roll their eyes and think their parents were just going through a mid life crisis, would they think the day to day stress had finally taken it's toll on us, or would they jump in with both feet and fall in love too.

I couldn't be happier to say that they all have risen to the occasion. I am so proud of my kids. They never hesitated for a moment. They speak to their friends, explaining the situation the orphans are in, they check on "the girls" and ask for updates. Andrew in his sweet and innocent way just wants to take them all home. He sees no obstacles or barriers.

I'm amazed at how our family is growing in love for these very special children, and I thank God for giving us all the same desire. We want more than anything to take a child (or two) home but I don't know if that is going to be God's will for us. It will take an enormous miracle to clear us for take off. If it is to be, than God will make it happen.
Wherever God is leading us, I am thrilled to be on this journey with my family.

I just want my kids and Peter to know how happy I am that one by one they started to follow what was initially just my dream. You guys are the best. Even though as I write this two of you are about to be punished for fighting, and another just came out of timeout, and it's not yet noon time!
I couldn't think of a better bunch to be stuck with.

I love this...seeing a family coming together for the orphan. Hubby and I we're just talking about the orphans this morning...How our hearts ache for them. We can't adopt (age) however we are doing everything we can to help them and to pray. Yes I will agree with Sophia to pray for Briggitta!! Can you also pray for Alexander. He's been transferred and has never had one person inquire about him..not one! Hugs and love

They have learned from the example of you and Peter.a true gift. One that will carry them through their entire lives, teaching them about perspective and selflessness.Be proud of yourselves my friend.

We too would love to adopt,as you know.Don't think it is in the cards for us either. When I talk about it with the the older girls, their reply is often,"Be patient mom.In a few years,it will be one of us adopting."Do you know what my heart does in those moments?Bursts. With pride in the children we have raised.

Have a great weekend.Did you get my message on your cell?

One scripture comes to mind when I read this post...
"Teach your children in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart from it."

You are doing an outstanding job!!
I need you to inbox (bkm1109@aol.com) me your address so that I can send you something...I know that sounds weird and I hope it doesnt creep you out, but you will be blessed by your suprise...God has really laid it on my heart and I must obey!

Blessings~

And you should be proud of this wonderful family of yours, what great hearts. Its always difficult to say which way our kids might go, we might think and feel a certain way but will they? I cant help thinking that once special needs has touched them in any small or big a way they are bound to be changed forever. What you are doing for the orphans makes me wish there were more beautiful people like you in this world and I am so honoured and blessed to know you even if only through this computer screen of mine.
I just received your beautiful Christmas Card, better late than never and I had tears in my eyes, I felt that a little bit of your family was in my home. I had to abort my Christmas card plans as we had a month long postal strike which has just ended and I didn't want my cards reaching in time for easter. I am looking at all those cards and well perhaps I might still send them for easter!!!

Teaching your children to have a philanthropic spirit is one of the most important things you can do. It sounds like they all have such loving hearts. You should be so proud. I wish more parents were just like you!

Big thanks to you and your sweet, wonderful Sofia! I am praying so hard for Brigita, and so wish I could bring her home to my family. Can't wait to see what Sofia has in store for a fundraiser. Even if it can't go directly to Brigita anymore, the older children surely could use a bigger fund.

Oops, sorry for misspelling Sophia's name! :-)

I love that your kids and husband are firmly on board, even if you aren't able to adopt. You have an amazing family!
